Communication Tools

Our work with communication tools in the HEDCO clinic is referred to as “Augmentative and Alternative Communication” . This term refers to adding to, or replacing, natural speech using unaided or aided communication systems. We provide the following:

  • Evaluations
  • Equipment access support
  • Communication tool programming
  • Educational resources
  • Family training
  • Low-tech options (pictures, books)
  • High-tech options (or mobile devices)

We also hold a summer camp for children using augmentative and alternative communication that offers integrated family and sibling training opportunities and opportunities to elevate an individual’s use of their system.
